What is Strategic Planning?

Strategic planning is the process of defining an organization’s direction, priorities, and actions to achieve long-term success. It helps leaders establish goals, allocate resources effectively, and measure progress to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and vision. Strategic planning provides a structured approach for organizations to:

  • Clarify their mission and vision
    • Define who they are, what they stand for, and where they want to go.
  • Identify key priorities
    • Focus resources and efforts on the initiatives that will have the greatest impact on success.
  • Develop measurable goals
    • Establish clear, actionable objectives that can be tracked and evaluated.
  • Align teams and resources
    • Ensure that people, processes, and investments support strategic priorities and desired outcomes.
  • Monitor performance and adapt
    • Use data and insights to track progress, make informed decisions, and adjust strategies as needed.

A strategic plan is the document that communicates an organization’s long-term goals, strategic priorities, and the actions required to achieve them. It serves as a roadmap for the organization by outlining objectives, key initiatives, resource requirements, timelines, and performance measures developed during the strategic planning process.

Most Current KPI Scorecard – FY 2025-2026

To ensure we are making progress toward these goals, we review our performance each quarter using a KPI (Key Performance Indicator) Scorecard. A KPI Scorecard measures our progress against the goals and benchmarks established in the Strategic Plan, providing a snapshot of where we are succeeding and where additional focus may be needed. Regular review of these metrics helps ensure our efforts remain aligned with the organization’s long-term vision and strategic priorities.
